Hanke(GQH) M40A6 vs JY MSR: Detailed Comparison of Two Sniper Gel Blasters
Share
For gel blaster enthusiasts who love sniper rifles, the Hanke(GQH) M40A6 and JY MSR are two highly concerned models. Both replicate classic real sniper rifles, but they have obvious differences in weight, texture, performance and other aspects. Today, we will conduct a comprehensive comparison from multiple dimensions to help you better choose the one that suits you!
1. Weight & Center of Gravity
Weight (Stock Bare Gun, Without Shells):
-
Hanke(GQH) M40A6: About 1.9kg
-
JY MSR (20-inch Short Barrel): About 2.5kg
Grip Feel:
-
Hanke(GQH) M40A6 nerf sniper: Due to the large number of nylon parts, the bare gun feels relatively light and a bit floating. However, after installing a metal bipod and sniper scope, the floating feeling disappears completely, and the gun becomes much more stable.
-
JY MSR gel blaster sniper: Thanks to the high-quality handguard and fully rubber-wrapped grip, it feels thick and solid even with the bare stock gun. After installing a metal bipod and sniper scope, the whole gun is almost like a fitness equipment (it’s really heavy!).
Center of Gravity:
-
Hanke(GQH) M40A6 nerf gun: Most of its metal parts are concentrated behind the ejection port, so the bare gun has a more rearward center of gravity. The hand holding the handguard will feel light, but this problem is directly solved after installing a metal bipod and scope.
-
JY MSR gel blaster: Benefiting from the overall material and more metal parts, plus the long front handguard and barrel, the center of gravity of the whole gun is evenly distributed, with almost the same front and rear weight. The center of gravity basically remains unchanged even after installing a metal bipod and scope.

2. Texture & Material Comparison
2.1 Receiver
-
Surface Texture: JY MSR is slightly better, feeling more delicate to the touch.
-
Cost-Effective Texture: As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for"—Hanke(GQH)’s texture is not worse than Jinming’s, which is at the mainstream level.
-
Restoration Degree: Hanke(GQH) still has the old bug of the bolt limit from the 98K, which is a bit abrupt. Maybe all future shell-ejecting products will have this feature~ JY has no obvious bugs overall. I just hope JY can add more engravings instead of only the simple Remington logo on the receiver, which is a bit monotonous.

2.2 Grip
-
Appearance: The grips of the two real rifles are exactly the same, and the two toys are basically the same in appearance.
-
Comfort: JY uses a fully rubber-wrapped grip, so it is better in grip comfort.
-
Hanke(GQH)’s nylon grip is at the mainstream level, and its texture is similar to that of grips on other toy guns.
-
Fixing Method: Both grips are fixed with a single screw, and their reliability remains to be verified—such a design is really a coincidence!

2.3 Stock
To ensure easy carrying, both real rifle models adopt folding stocks. The hollow stock of the M40A6 is actually a hollow stock in the MSR system.

-
Sturdiness & Shake: Although the material of Hanke(GQH)’s hollow stock does not restore the real rifle, the hollow stock with nylon as the main body is very strong. Thanks to the small tolerance between nylon parts and fixation by pins, the shake during locking and rotation is not as obvious as that of JY. The rotating shaft of JY MSR’s stock is made of metal, with a slightly larger tolerance with the nylon main body, so there is obvious shake.
-
Parting Line: Hanke(GQH) handles the parting line of the stock better. Maybe JY thinks this place is inconspicuous, so the handling is a bit rough.
-
Cheek Rest & Pad Adjustment: After unlocking and adjusting the cheek rest and pad of Hanke(GQH), you need to use a lot of force to adjust the knob—it’s very laborious to rotate the adjustment knob. In contrast, the adjustment knob of JY feels very delicate, but unfortunately, the color of the adjustment knob is not restored (it’s the original metal color), so we can take it as a protective color for the time being.
-
Butt Pad: The bottom of JY’s butt pad is wrapped with a thin layer of rubber, and the Remington logo is printed on both sides of the rubber in a high-profile way. The R letter at the bottom and the surrounding rubber anti-slip particles are very authentic~ I hope this butt pad rubber can be made thicker, as thick as the grip texture.
-
In contrast, Hanke(GQH)’s butt pad is made of nylon, and its texture restores the shape of the real rifle’s rubber butt pad.

2.4 Trigger & Trigger Guard
-
Both use metal triggers. The firing is stable, and the trigger force is similar, which is the feeling of a sniper rifle.
-
Trigger Travel: The trigger travel of Hanke(GQH) M40A6 is about 10mm; the trigger travel of JY MSR is about 5mm.
-
Trigger Guard: Hanke(GQH) probably made it integrated with the receiver to save costs. It’s a pity that the guard can’t be replaced with a metal one in the future. JY’s guard is a separate metal part, which is a one-step solution, so there’s no need to replace it later~ Both guards have hollow parts in the middle, but their styles are slightly different (each restores the real rifle).

2.5 Bolt & Bolt Travel
The bolt group of the M40A6 restored by Hanke(GQH) is actually derived from the Remington 700.
-
Material & Paint: Both bolts are made of metal but have no magnetism. They should be aluminum alloy to ensure strength. The glossy paint on the bolts is almost the same. After playing for a period of time, both toys’ bolts have slight discoloration.
-
Bolt Travel: Since Hanke(GQH) is a shell-ejecting gel blaster, its bolt travel is more restored, about 127mm. In contrast, JY’s travel is only about 73mm.
-
Details: Hanke(GQH)’s bolt also has engravings, which is very authentic. The click sound of JY’s rotating bolt is better than that of Hanke(GQH). Both have obvious sense of paragraphs when rotating and pulling back.

2.6 Top Rail (12 O’Clock Rail)
Since both real rifles are designed to install night vision devices and other equipment in front of the sniper scope, the rails of these two toys are extremely long~ Considering the deformation problem of nylon rails, the flatness of the rails of the two blasters is almost the same.
-
Hanke(GQH): The top rail is integrated. Due to the different fixing methods, the sniper scope on Hanke(GQH)’s rail will have slight shake. At the same time, there is a gap at the bottom of the rail caused by tolerance.
-
JY: The rail is fixed firmly, but there is a tolerance of about 1mm at the junction of the rail on the receiver and the rail on the handguard. However, it is not so obvious after installing the scope.

2.7 Handguard
-
Hanke(GQH): The parting line on the surface of the handguard is better handled than that of JY, but there are more burrs on the inner side.
-
JY: On the contrary, there are basically no burrs on the inner side, but the surface parting line seems to be unprocessed. Maybe the black version of JY MSR will not be so obvious.

2.8 Magazine
Since the two real rifles are different models, the magazine sizes are slightly different~ The real M40A6 fires 7.62×51mm NATO ammunition. This JY MSR should be restored to fire 0.338-inch LM ammunition. In fact, as a modular sniper rifle, the MSR has four types of ammunition and supporting bolt groups that can be replaced (7.62mm NATO ammunition, which is the ammunition fired by the M40A6, as well as 0.300 Magnum and 0.338 NM ammunition).
-
Hanke(GQH): The magazine is restored to a 5-round magazine, but it is recommended to only load 4 shells (because there is a probability that the fifth shell will pop out after repeated pressure tests). In fact, when loading 4 shells, you have to pat the bottom of the magazine hard to make the magazine catch lock~ There’s no way, you can only play 4+1. It can be replaced with an 11-round extended magazine.
-
JY: The magazine has optimized the previous electric feeding problem. Using frosted bullets above 7.4mm will not cause multiple shots at a time.

2.9 Stock Flash Hider & Hop-Up
Stock Flash Hider:
-
Both toys basically restore the real rifle flash hider. Hanke(GQH) has a lot of burrs. It is equipped with a red flash hider as a protective color, and there is also a black replacement part. JY only has a black flash hider made of nylon, with the edge burrs removed, and the workmanship is good.
Hop-Up:
-
Hanke(GQH): The inner barrel is exposed about 18mm, and a matching built-in hop-up can be configured.
-
JY: The inner barrel is exposed about 7mm, and any 9.5mm inner diameter hop-up can be used. The effect of using the LDT nylon integrated non-sinking hop-up is not very good (because the upper and lower friction plates reduce the initial velocity seriously, it is not recommended to use).
3. Initial Velocity Comparison
Using evenly soaked Sanyo frosted bullets with a diameter of about 7.4~7.5mm.
-
Hanke(GQH) M40A6: For some reason, when using the stock shell, the initial velocity is about 65m/s, but the variance is small and the performance is very stable; the initial velocity with the metal shell is 44m/s.
-
JY MSR: When using the short barrel with the same batch of Sanyo frosted bullets, the initial velocity is about 66~73m/s, but the variance is slightly large and the performance is very unstable, even dropping to 60m/s~

4. Ballistics Comparison
-
Hanke(GQH) M40A6: Thanks to the shell-ejecting structure which is less affected by bullet diameter, its ballistics are very stable and the spread is very good~ I believe it can shoot straight for 20m after adding a hop-up in the future.
-
JY MSR: As for its ballistics, if the bullet diameter is appropriate, it can even shoot straight for 25m~ But if the bullet diameter is too small, it may not even shoot straight for 10m, and small bullet diameter is also likely to cause double shots~
Final Summary
Hanke(GQH) M40A6 has stable performance, good ballistics and more restored shell-ejecting experience, which is suitable for players who like shell-ejecting details and stable performance. JY MSR has a better texture in some parts, even weight distribution and higher maximum initial velocity, but its performance is unstable and it is picky about bullet diameter, which is suitable for players who pursue texture and don’t mind adjusting bullet selection. Choose according to your own preferences!
